CopoMais strengthens collection network in Lisbon’s historic city center
30 March 2026
March 30, 2026 - The CopoMais system is preparing to expand its collection network across Lisbon’s historic city center throughout the spring and summer. Several hundred bars will gain access to nearby collection points, making reuse more practical and efficient for both venues and consumers.
Since the launch of CopoMais in November, Lisbon has positioned itself among Europe’s leading capitals in the implementation of a city-scale, digitally integrated system for reusable cups. The system has already been adopted by more than 30 bars and restaurants, reflecting growing uptake across the hospitality sector.
At present, five automated cup return machines are in operation in Bairro Alto, with the installation of a further 17 return points planned for the coming months in strategically located public spaces with high footfall. The first two of these can found at Principal Real and Miradouro S. Pedro.
This expansion of the network will significantly increase reuse rates, helping to reduce single-use waste in public spaces and further establishing Lisbon as a European reference point for sustainable solutions in the hospitality and leisure sectors.

Lisbon launched its new city-wide reusable cup system, “CopoMais Lisboa.” The brand name “CopoMais” indicates that it is more than just a cup – it’s a part of system that enables circularity and makes reuse convenient, efficient and traceable. It is also a system that gives the user back the deposit paid when buying a beverage in one of the participating bars.
