Lisbon is known for its culture, nightlife, and vibrant street life. To protect what makes the city unique, we need smarter ways to reduce litter and cut unnecessary CO₂ emissions by keeping resources in use for longer.
CopoMais is Lisbon’s new reusable cup system — a simple, convenient and rewarding way to enjoy the city while creating less waste.
Here’s how it works: when you buy a drink served in a CopoMais cup, you pay a small deposit that is fully refunded when you return the cup to any CopoMais automated collection machine. The deposit attached to every cup encourages returns, prevents litter, and keeps each cup circulating in the system.

Partnership
CopoMais is the product of a partnership between the City of Lisbon, national hospitality business association AHRESP, and the circular solutions provider TOMRA.
With a joint ambition to create a better Lisbon by reducing littering and emissions, the partners collaborate to establish a robust, efficient and self-financing system.
FAQ
CopoMais is Lisbon’s new city-wide reusable cup system. It replaces single-use and non-returnable plastic cups with sturdy, washable ones that can be returned at multiple locations in the city for your deposit back. It’s simple, convenient, and helps keep Lisbon cleaner.
When you buy a drink, you pay the price of your drink, plus a fee which includes a €0.50 deposit. Enjoy your drink, then return the cup at any CopoMais return machine to get your €0.50 deposit paid back to your bank card.
CopoMais cups come in four sizes to fit every drink:

All cups work the same way — one deposit, one return system.
Cups can be returned at CopoMais return machines, which are placed in central areas across Lisbon — such as squares, nightlife districts, and event zones. Scan the QR code on the cup or nearby posters to find the nearest return machine.
Additional return machines will continue to be rolled out during the first quarter of 2026. One will always be able to find all available return locations by scanning the QR code on every CopoMais cup and visiting copomais.pt.
When you return the cup to a CopoMais return machine, you’ll receive €0.50 directly to your bank card or NFC-enabled device (phone, watch).
No app, no sign-up, no QR code needed for the refund. Just return the cup at a machine — and your €0.50 comes straight back.
If you lose it, the deposit cannot be refunded. If it’s dirty, no problem — just return it; CopoMais takes care of cleaning (but we’re happy if you empty it first). If it’s broken or unreadable, you can still return it at a machine or to staff near the return point; refund may depend on the condition.
Every cup is professionally washed and sanitized in a certified facility before being reused, following strict EU food-safety standards.
